Sensex rises 84.87 pts; RCom, GTL Infra most active

The 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex opened flat with a rise of 3.13 points or 0.02% at 17,577.66, while the broad based NSE Nifty started with a rise of 51.45 points or 0.98%, at 5,320.50.

At 9.04 am, the Sensex was trading up 84.87 points or 0.48% at 17,659.40 with 20 components gaining. Meanwhile, the Nifty was trading higher by 29.55 points or 0.56% at 5,298.60 with 33 components gaining.

Sensex Movers

Reliance Industries contributed rise of 9.98 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (8.5 points), Reliance Communications (7.49 points), Larsen & Toubro (5.11 points) and H D F C Bank (5.01 points).

However, State Bank Of India contributed fall of 7.56 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Maruti Suzuki India (2.92 points), Mahindra & Mahindra (2.21 points), I T C (2.15 points) and ACC (1.14 points).

Major gainers in the 30-share index were Reliance Communications (4.42%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (1.27%), Wipro (0.91%), Cipla (0.87%), Reliance Energy (0.81%), and Bharti Airtel (0.78%).

On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki India (1.14%), ACC (0.98%), State Bank Of India (0.86%), Mahindra & Mahindra (0.63%), Hero Honda Motors (0.22%), and I T C (0.22%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Sectors in Limelight

The Consumer Durables index was at 4,635.44, up by 30.07 points or by 0.65%. The major gainers were Gitanjali Gems (0.99%), Titan Industries (0.87%), Rajesh Exports (0.81%), V I P Industries (0.58%) and Videocon Industries (0.3%).

The Metal index was at 14,965.04, up by 82.33 points or by 0.55%. The major gainers were National Aluminium Company (1.05%), Hindustan Zinc (0.94%), JSW Steel (0.83%), Jindal Saw (0.81%) and Hindalco Industries (0.77%).

The TECk index was at 3,281.92, up by 17.65 points or by 0.54%. The major gainers were Reliance MediaWorks (1.81%), Idea Cellular (1.68%), Dish TV India (1.11%), Bharti Airtel (0.78%) and Mphasis (0.27%).

On the other hand, the Auto index was at 8,206.61, down by 1.92 points or by 0.02%. The major losers were Bajaj Auto (0.86%), Bharat Forge (0.69%), Amtek Auto (0.56%), Exide Industries (0.15%) and Ashok Leyland (0.08%).

Market Breadth

Market breadth was positive with 692 advances against 276 declines.

Value and Volume Toppers

Reliance Communications topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 131.24 million. It was followed by G T L Infrastructure (Rs. 73.24 million), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (Rs. 59.02 million) and Sarda Energy & Minerals (Rs. 40.63 million).

The volume chart was led by G T L Infrastructure with trades of over 1.56 million shares. It was followed by Reliance Communications (0.65 million), Sanraa Media (0.43 million) and I F C I (0.41 million).
