Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport (Marathi: डॉ.बाबासाहेब आंबेडकर आंतरराष्ट्रीय विमानतळ) (IATA: NAG, ICAO: VANP), also known as Sonegaon Airport, is a public domestic and international airport serving the city of Nagpur, Maharashtra, India. It is one of the 18 Airports in the Maharashtra. It was named after Bhimrao aka Dr. "Babasaheb" Ambedkar, the famous Indian economist, jurist and politician . Strategically located and in a prosperous region, Nagpur Airport figures to play prominently in the spectacular growth of air travel in India. The airport connects Nagpur to India's main aviation hubs of Mumbai and Delhi, as well as the international destinations Sharjah, Dubai and Doha. The airport has witnessed a slight decrease in air traffic due to increase in fuel prices in recent days.
This airport is slated to be the Multimodal International Hub Airport in India and the development work is already started in the mid of 2005, which is expected to bring the new glory to the airport and apparently for the city of Nagpur. This will also help reducing the overload on other busy airports in India by diverting the cargo and passengers traffic to Nagpur as well as will make the city one of the most important business and economic center in India and Asia.
