The Jaripatka police seem unable to decide on registering the case of double murder in the matter of bodies of two youths found on railway track in Sadar on Sunday. The mutilated bodies of Shaikh Kalim, alias Shaikh Kallu, and Shaikh Kalim Shaikh Shafi had left the police guessing.
They had initially registered the case as accidental deaths. However, post-mortem revealed homicidal injuries on the bodies. Police were informed by the forensic experts about use of sharp weapons to inflict injuries on neck on both the youths. It was not clear why police still delayed registering offence of murder.
The family members of the youths had cried foul immediately. "The youths were threatened by Sumit Thakur who had a rivalry with some youths in Mominpura. The family members had received threats from Thakur too. There had been a fight among the youths in the past," said a family member.
Senior inspector Rajendra Unawane of Jaripatka police station said that offence of murder is yet to be registered. "We are in process of completing the formalities. We are trying to gather more evidence decide a course of action," said Unawane. He did not elaborate.
The bodies were unidentified until Sadar police came across an abandoned bike at Mangalwari market. Help of the photographs were taken to identify the bodies. The family members were alerted too. "Police must get the culprits," a family member demanded.
Police sources said that there was enough ground for the family to believe Thakur's involvement. Thakur and his gang were involved in alleged firing on two youths in Mominpura. He was arrested by Tehsil police in that case last year.
Thakur was again arrested by Gittikhadan police recently for possessing firearms. He was released from jail a fortnight ago. Sources said Thakur was summoned after his name cropped up in the latest case but he ignored the summons.
