Parents accuse principal of cremating son

It has been exactly two months since Amit Jadhav, the 21-year-old son of Rajendra Jadhav, was killed in a motorcycle accident in Nagpur. However, what makes Amit's demise even more tragic and strange is that his parents in New Panvel were not informed about it; in fact, his body was cremated by a Nagpur-based school principal, Hina Zaveri, who allegedly claimed that Amit was her brother.

A bitter and angry Rajendra Jadhav (49), who works with LIC, has sent complaint letters to state home minister R R Patil and also director general of police Ajit Parasnis, seeking action against Zaveri.

Zaveri was reportedly sacked from the post of principal by the management of Arvind Indo Public School in Katol, Nagpur, after it came to light that she had reportedly listed the name of Amit Jadhav as Amit Parshuram Zaveri in the Nagpur-based hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Zaveri had also tried to change Jadhav's surname to Zaveri in school records, but was unsuccessful, as a clerk informed the school management about it.

A heart-broken Rajendra Jadhav told TOI that Amit, who earlier worked at a call centre in Mhape, Navi Mumbai, had come into contact with Zaveri, who asked him to join as a computer teacher in her school.

When TOI contacted Nagpur (rural) police, Vilas Wandile, senior inspector of Kalmeshwar police station, said they are investigating the matter thoroughly following the complaint of Amit's parents.

"Zaveri told us that she was unaware of the existence of Amit's parents; she was under the impression that Amit was an orphan," said Wandile.

Chandrashekhar Deshmukh, Nagpur-based director of Arvind Indo Public School, also confirmed to TOI that they sacked Zaveri on April 19. "We don't know what her intentions were, but we did sack her for this."
