Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), may soon come up with a proposal inviting allies to redevelop the Nagpur airport. This follows a consultants' report recommending revamp of the existing airport, said vice-chairman-cum-managing director (VC-MD) of the company UPS Madan.
Meanwhile, the company's board of directors held their first meeting after Madan took over as the full-time VC-MD. Issues related to MADC's finance, especially loans owed by the company were discussed in the meeting. It has also been decided to draw a new business plan for the MADC which will cover the entire operations of this state-government owned company, not limiting it to the Mihan project, said Madan. With finance being one of the key issues, modes of raising funds were also discussed in the meeting, he added.
Sources in the company said that the Mihan project urgently needs to explore new modes of raising funds. It has been mainly depending on budgetary allocation, sale of land as well as loans. However, a gap always remained. The airport itself needs around Rs 60-62 crore to implement the plans envisaged. Except having a new terminal building, other works including recarpeting of the runway remains to be done, said a source. Along with the board meeting, chief minister Prithviraj Chavan also held a review meeting on the Mihan project.
