You can report traffic violators online

Traffic violators beware! Next time you jump the signal or are driving drunk, somebody around who witnessed your act may lodge an online complaint quoting your vehicle number.

With the Nagpur city traffic police website (www.nagpurtrafficpolice.org) being launched on Thursday evening, DCP traffic Sahebrao Patil offered various facilities including online complaints and emergency services.

The website which is to be run and monitored by trained professionals provides the general information on traffic rules and regulations, speed limits, Dos and Don'ts, guidelines for pedestrian and riders and emergency contact numbers.

"Traffic signals are functioning throughout the day. If we received any online complaints of signal jumping by a vehicle then it will be immediately sent to the authorities concerned," said C P Ankush Dhanvijay inaugurating the website at his office. He said compared to last year, fatal accidents had reduced by 30 and he hoped the number would reduce even more.

"City traffic police have made serious efforts to maintain the smooth flow of traffic," Dhanvijay said on the occasion.

Details of policies and statistics pertaining to various types of accidents that take place every year in the city would be available on the website. "It will be interactive too. After the complaint is received, cops will immediately take action against drivers by imposing penalty," said Patil.

Besides, the website will also have general information on spot fines, number plate rules, road marking, manual traffic signals and guidelines for pedestrians, school children, two-wheelers and four-wheelers.

Patil said fancy number plates were illegal and riders have to follow rules about font to used and spacing between numerals and alphabets. People can know about the traffic plans and diversions during occasions like Ganesh festival from the website. "They can also know important and convenient routes for driving from one place to another," he added.

Complaints of road blockages, congestions and traffic jams in various parts of the city are also welcome. Patil said, "Traffic police are making continuous efforts for ensuring unhindered traffic flow. We cannot succeed without the active involvement and participation of citizens. We are also trying to educate general public."
