A young couple was allegedly abducted by five unknown people posing as cops, from their relative's house in Ekatmata Nagar in Jaitala on Saturday evening. Kanhaiyya (25) and Manisha (19) Bawankar have not returned home yet. The relatives claim that a city businessman who owns a popular hotel at Ramdaspeth as well at Kondhali, Raipur and other cities is behind the abduction.
More than a year ago, the couple was working at the Kondhali hotel. According to the complainant, Indubai Shirsagar, who is a relative of the couple, the businessman had lodged a case of forgery against the couple at Kondhali police station.
Around 6.30pm, five people in civil dress came on a white four-wheeler. Introducing themselves as police personnel from Kondhali police station, they took the couple for questioning. Kanhaiyya was working as a supervisor and Manisha as a domestic work at the businessman's Kondhali residence. The couple was allowed to stay at their his residence.
They fell in love and married a year ago. Kanhaiyya was the most trustworthy employee and hence the businessman would send him on tours to his other branches. "In Kanhaiyya's absence, he would physically abuse Manisha," claimed Shirsagar. She added that initially Manisha hid it from Kanhaiyya but later told him everything. After learning the fact, the couple decided to leave the job but their employer did not let them go. Shirsagar alleged that the couple was kept locked for three days at Kondhali but somehow they managed to flee.
The businessman then lodged a complaint of fraud to the tune of Rs 1.5 lakh against them on Thursday. The couple was arrested on Friday. On Saturday, Kanhaiyya and Manisha took bail and shifted to Shirsagar's residence. Shirsagar claimed that the businessman might have been worried that Manisha would reveal about the harassment. "Though he allowed them to stay at his residence and would provide food, he would not pay them. Hence, the couple decided to leave and this angered him," said she said
