DGP reviews crime scene in Nagpur

State director general of police Ajit Parasnis, during his maiden visit to the city, discussed the issue of crime and criminal activities with the senior officers here on Sunday. The DGP also suggested plans for ensuring strict law and order in city. Officials from city and rural areas were present in the meeting.

Parasnis had reached Nagpur on Friday and headed the following day to Naxal-affected Gadchiroli district for his first visit after taking over the post. He returned to city after a night halt in Gadchiroli before heading for Mumbai in the evening.

Parasnis also visited Suraburdi-based Maharashtra Jungle Warfare School, earlier named as Alpha Hawks academy, in the outskirts of the city to review the ongoing construction work there. He was accompanied by city police chief Ankush Dhanvijay, state Anti-Naxal Operation Cell chief Ravindra Kadam and others. Parasnis urged the contractor to expedite the work of the training school whose construction work is scheduled to end by May 31.

The DGP later visited the Kunal Hospital at Mankapur where injured C-60 jawan Shankar Pungati is recuperating. Pungati was brought to city after he had sustained an injury during an encounter in which the cops lost a jawan. Parasnis apparently urged the general manager of the hospital Rajesh Gabriel to ensure utmost care was taken of the jawan.

The visit of DGP at Kunal Hospital was marred after a senior officer of DCP rank created a ruckus trying to block his colleagues that ANO chief DIG Kadam, Naxal range DIG Sunil Ramanand, DIG Chiranjeev Prasad and DCP (traffic) Sahebrao Patil who were part of the Parasnis' entourage. The officer, trying to hinder mediapersons, ended up ruffling the feathers of the senior cops. Dhanvijay too was upset with the officer.

Parasnis is learnt to have expressed happiness over Dhanvijay's role in taking initiatives in strengthening communal harmony in city. He also reviewed the security arrangements made by the city cops during the forthcoming Ram Navami and other festivals.
