Raman Science Centre and Chhand Vaibhav are jointly organising an exhibition of some interesting personal collections of people from city from Monday to Wednesday to mark the International Museum Day. Some of the collections on display would include three dimensional newspapers, pictures of Lord Ganesh in the letters of Devnagari script, articles shaped like shoes and guitar shaped key chains. Besides, these there would be antiques, stamps and coin collections too.
"We are trying to put our natural and cultural heritage on display for the common people to have a look at. It is almost like giving these collectors' 'personal museums' a platform," said Srikant Pathak, director of Raman Science Centre. Chhand Viabhav, or hobby club, counts many a Limca record holders as its members. Some of them have multiple records to their name.
One such collection belongs to Deepak Sant, who collects newspapers from various countries and has entered the Limca book thrice. From newspapers with names starting with all letters of English alphabet to those having "times" in their names, this former government servant has it all.
Devendra Sama has many interesting collections in his kitty. Having his name entered in the record books for collecting the highest number of business cards, this enthusiast collector has also collected shoe shaped articles too. In the exhibition, he would be displaying his collection of shoe-shaped key chains.
Another avid collector from the group Vinay Nijsure has a love for the match boxes. He has several of these tiny artistic ones that he struggles to keep safely. Nijsure also puts in a lot of time and effort in arranging these boxes thematically. At one of his earlier exhibitions he had the boxes along with the articles that their brands were named after. At yet another occasion, he had specially pulled out all the boxes with pictures of musical instruments on them.
"Each exhibition has to be different from the others I have held. This time, too, I have planned something special for Raman Science Centre," said Nijsure. Pushkraj Deshpande is a legal consultant by profession but a collector at heart. He has a weird collection of newspaper articles that now number up to a thousand related to dogs. He also has in his possession a huge collection of travel postcards. "At this exhibition, though, I would be showing off my special collection of stamps on stamps," said Deshpande insisting that people visit the exhibition for more details.
