Youth foils armed robbery bid

With sheer courage and presence of mind, 25-year-old Prakash Falke fought armed robbers on Friday to save cash Rs 2 lakh owned by his company.

Resident of Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Prakash, employed with Ankit Pulps and Board Company, foiled the robbery attempt when two bike-borne youths attacked him to snatch away a bag with Rs 2 lakh cash. The drama unfolded around 6 pm on Friday near Rajiv Gandhi flyover in Yashodhara Nagar when Prakash was on his way to deposit the cash with the company. He hung the bag across his shoulder while driving the bike. Suddenly, two youths came from behind and told him that his bag was falling. Prakash slowed his bike to cross-check and adjust the bag.

"As I slowed down, the youths blocked my bike with their vehicle. The pillion rider tried to grab the bag. They threatened me but I refused to let go the bag," Prakash said. While one of them started pulling the bag away, the pillion rider started hitting Prakash with a bag having something sharp inside.

"Something sharp hit me badly on my head. Blood started trickling from my head and the pain became unbearable," Prakash explained. "It was a huge amount for me. I had to save the cash as it was practically beyond me to repay the money if lost," admitted Prakash, who is the sole bread-earner.

"I got down from the bike and tried to escape. As they started chasing me, I started shouting for help and was lucky enough to spot a police patrol van. The police came to my rescue and the robbers fled," Prakash said.
