Youth Congress leaders have met senior Nagpur police officers pointing out alleged adverse influence the hukkah parlours are having on city's youths. The leaders have warned of violent agitation targeting the parlours from Monday. They have also blamed these parlours for rising criminal activities in city.
Former Congress minister Anees Ahmed and city Youth Congress president Atul Kotecha met joint commissioner of police D Kanakaratnam on Friday voicing their concern over the thriving hukkah parlours. The two said in a release later that police have promised action.
The Congress activists pointed out that many parlours in various localities were supplying liquor and contraband substances to their mainly young customers. "These parlours have made their interiors so as to provide privacy to couples which is morally wrong. We have received several complaints from parents against these parlours," Ahmed told TOI. "We will now resort to strong methods against these parlours as police and corporation are allowing them to operate without check," he said.
