Ramtek is a small town, situated at a distance of approximately 42 km to the northeast of the Nagpur city of Maharashtra. It falls under the Nagpur district and is held in high regard by the Hindus. This is because this town is believed to be associated with Lord Rama. There is hill situated near Ramtek, known as the Ramgiri Hill. The hill houses a historical temple of Lord Rama, which is said to be more than 600 years old. This temple has greatly added to the travel attraction of the city.


The legend also goes that Lord Rama stopped at Ramtek, along with His wife Sita and brother Lakshmana, while on his exile. Another fact that adds to the attraction of the town, from tourism point of view, is its association with the Great poet Kalidasa. He wrote his excellent poem, Meghdoot in the hills of Ramtek only. Infact, it is often said that it was the beauty of Ramtek Hills that inspired him to write the poem. The town was also the constituency from where Late Indian Prime Minister Narshima Rao fought his election.


The major attractions of Ramtek comprise of the 27 Brahmanical style temple that have been constructed atop the hill. Amongst them is the Lakshmana Temple, which dates back to as far back as 1400 AD. The town serves as the venue of the Kalidasa Festival, held every year in the month of November. A fortnight-long festival, it boasts of performances by virtuosos in the field of music, dance and drama. Ramsagar Lake, a serene lake, and the Jain temple situated here are also worth having a look at.

DIKSHA BHOOMI NAGPUR

Dhamma Chakra Stupa, also known as Diksha Bhumi, is an important religious Buddhist monument located at Nagpur. It is at this place in 1956 Dr B R Ambedkar initiated the conversion of thousands of Dalit people to Buddhism. This day is celebrated as Ashok Vijaya Dashmi and on this day thousands of followers of Dr Ambedkar and Buddism join this place to offer floral tributes.

The stupa is worth seeing due to its architectural beauty. It can accommodate more than 5,000 people. The stupa is made out of Dhaulpur sandstones, marbles and granites. The attractive dome has a height of 120 feet.

TADOBA NATIONAL PARK

Tadoba National Park is the oldest National Park in Maharashtra and is located at the outskirts of Nagpur. It is declared in 1993 as a Project Tiger reserve. Tadoba village is known as the ‘the Jewel of Vidarbha’. The name Tadoba is derived from the local deity of the inhabitants Gond tribals.

A marvelous site for the wild life enthusiasts, Tadoba has rich collections of flora and fauna. The main attractions here are the lake inside the park and the rich deciduous teak forest. The lake is the natural habitat of many water birds and the forest shelters many wild species including tigers.

KHINDSI NAGPUR


Ramtek gets its name from Lord Rama who, with Sita and Laxmana, is said to have rested here. The taluka, which is situated along the north and north-eastern areas of Nagpur District, covering an area of 1129 sq. miles, is famous for its Ram Mandir and the Kalidas memorial to the celebrated playwright, which grace the top of a hill.
Fascinating aspect to the place is that the stones of the hill, when newly fractured, take on a blood red colour in sunlight, apparently reflecting the blood of the demon Hiranyya Kashapu when he was slain by Lord Vishnu in the avatar of Narsimha. Legend has it that, after his victory.Lord Vishnu threw his cudgel down with such force that it made a crater which now forms the Ambala tank at the foot of the hill. Around the tank are a number of temples, including two to Narsimha as well as a number of Jain ones. A trip to Ramtek, especially during the Ramnavami festival, will prove a uniquely fascinating journey, where history, geography, and spirituality blend seamlessly to provide an unforgettable travel experience.

Sights
Khindsi Lake :  Located just 5 kms from Ramtek, this beautiful lake, surrounded on all sides by verdant forests, is a must-see. Trekking aside, the big attraction here is water sports. Choose from motor boats, pedal boats, rowing boats or even water scooters. There’s really no beter way to take in the scenic beauty of the place.

Mansar : Located on the Nagpur – Jabalpur highway, Mansar’s pride is an expansive lake bordered y the Hidimba hill, the site of an archeological excavation. To date, antiquities from four different civilizations have been unearthed here, including many Jain idols. Those with a fascination for ancient cultures would do well to visit the site and watch history being revealed right before their eyes.


   
   

Nagardhan : The historic town of Nagardhan is said to have been founded by Nandvardhan, a king of the Shail Dynasty. The land houses a fort, supposedly built by the Bhonsles, with walls made by brick.

Location : Ramtek is situated north-east of Nagpur.

MUSICAL GARDEN

The musical garden is located at Surya Nagar, Nagpur and is built under the direction of Jaiprakash Gupta, NIT trustee.

The theme of the garden is Music in and out. The sprawling garden has pleasant ambience and is having a landscaped lawn. It has many attractive musical fountains, with themes of nodes of music, ragas and raganis conducted by musician.

There is an open air theater which can accommodate about 2500 people and the theater is intended for musical concerts. It is a center of attraction for the Nagpur populace.

TELANGKHEDI LAKE NAGPUR

Telankadi Lake, one of the best picnic spot to relax during evenings and weekends, is located at a scenic location in the outskirts of Nagpur. The lake is an absoluter family vacation place with kids playing park, impressive soft sandy shore, well laid roads and colorful illuminating lights.
