A city court has remanded a polytechnic student, arrested on Saturday, for blackmailing a teenage girs with her obscene MMS to police custody till Tuesday. Sanjay Chakraborty, a polytechnic student, was arrested by Rana Pratap Nagar police for allegedly extorting Rs 4.60 lakh from his girlfriend after having shot an obscene MMS of hers.
A resident of Bhausaheb Surve Nagar, 26-year-old Sanjay was arrested after the victim lodged a police complaint at the urging of her parents. Though Sanjay was blackmailing her since last year, the matter came to light after the girl's parents received a notice from the college regarding non-payment of fees. They questioned her closely and she spilled the beans. The parents then checked their savings account and were shocked to find she had even withdrawn money from it.
Sanjay, during last academic session, had developed a relationship with the 18-year-old girl. Initially he spent a lot of money on her and ensnared her into letting him to take her objectionable photographs. Later, Sanjay started showing the photographs to their common friends. Being madly in love with Sanjay, the victim initially ignored the act.
Later Sanjay threatened to circulate the photographs among others and started demanding money from her from December 2010 onwards. To save her reputation from sullied, the girl started giving him money. Apart from giving her college fees, the victim stole her mother's valuables and passed on to Sanjay. She started withdrawing money from her parent's account using their ATM card, said police.
Sanjay's father works with a well known private company while the girl's father is employed with Nagpur Municipal Corporation.
